Today is Saudi National Day. They are celebrating their 79th year!
We were told some stores will still be closed, so Bassam and I took our chances and hit the town. True, many were closed, but the ones we wanted weren’t, so that was a plus for us ;)
We first went look at a few carpenters to see if we can get a clothes closet for our bedroom custom made. They don’t have built-in closets like we do in the US, so you have to basically buy or make your own. After looking at a few places, we finally found a place that we do what we want at a really good price. We finally decided on a clothes closet and a shoe shelf. It’s hard to explain what I’m talking about, but once they are done (hopefully by next Thursday), I will post pictures of them.
Then I met with my friend Samia to go shopping. I bought a new abayya, but it won’t be ready till Wednesday of next week. I also bought some bakhoor and some long, house dresses. Later we brought her off at her house and went driving around the streets looking at crazy people celebrate National Day! There was faces painted in green and white, flags were waving from car windows and car sunroofs, and of course, there were those dancing and singing in the streets! They really know how to celebrate! It really was fun to watch. Before we knew it, it was almost 1 am, so we headed home.
I’m about to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and have it with some cold milk. Yummy!
Much Love, HKA in KSA
